Into the Spiral by Erin Danzer

Spiral Defender Series #1

Into the Spiral
Seventeen-year-old Veronica “Ronnie” Lambert wants to get out from under her older brother’s shadow. When Ronnie gets a tattoo and then is struck by lightning, she suddenly finds herself able to see and hear things in shadows that don’t appear to others. Then Ronnie meets Gavin Clearwater, the hot new guy in all of her classes and finds out he can see and hear the same things she can.

Gavin tells her about the Spiral Defenders, a group of warriors that travels through space and time to defend the planets of the Spiral. After meeting the Commander of the Spiral Defenders and realizing his intentions might not be pure, Ronnie struggles between following her destiny to become a Spiral Defender and trying to regain the life she had before being struck by lightning.

Review

What if getting inked, making a birthday wish and getting struck by a lightning could change your whole life in a whole amazing way?

Veronica or Ronnie, like she is often called, decided to get a tattoo for her birthday so she could be someone she wanted to be instead of shadowed by her big brother reputation. But she never thought that after this tattoo she would het struck by lightning, not get hurt at all by it, and then having several guys lining up for her attention.

But not everything is good, she also got a terrifying consequence: she is seeing shadows in the dark, menacing shadows that seems to follow her and maybe even attack her. And when a new annoyingly handsome student arrives in her school and follows her everywhere, and a young writer always seems to find her in her most comfortable place, she begins to wonder what changed, and if her new tattoo has something to do with it.

I loved this book, the whole, tattoo and shadows thing, and all the other things we discover in this book, make it a really interesting read, something kind of different, and I even though we don’t get much action in this book, I have a feeling that the next installments will be really interesting.

I don’t know what to say about the romance, there is some in this book, but now that I finished it, I know that the actual romance of the series will still come to be. And I also don’t know about the villain of this book, because for once, the villain is not exactly someone that you can just fight against straight on, and you will have to read the book yourselves to understand what I mean.
