Darkness Falls by Cate Tiernan

Immortal Beloved Trilogy #2

Darkness Falls
You can run from your past, but it will always catch up.

Nastasya has lived for hundreds of years, but for some reason it never seems to get any easier. She’s left behind her days of debauchery to find peace and forgiveness at River’s Edge, a safe haven for wayward immortals. There she’s uncovered her family’s epic history, reclaimed her magickal powers, and met Reyn, whom she dubs “the Viking god.” Just as she settles into her new life, Nastasya learns that her old friends might be in town....

Reuniting with her gorgeous and dangerous ex-best-friend, Innocencio, Nas wonders if she’ll ever be truly free of her dark legacy. Is Incy dangerous, power-hungry, and wicked? Or is he the only one who truly understands Nas’s darkness? Either way, Nas is desperate to find out who she really is-even if the answer kills her.

Review

Nastasya is finally accepting who she really is, and accepting her natural looks, and more than ever wants to only do good magick. So she keeps remembering all the “fun” she had for decades but what she finds in her memories are a lot of tragedies related to her uncaring nature of fooling people, stealing food from children orphanage and disturbing people’s lives. She realizes that she never really saw things from other perspective and thinks that now she should make up for it.

When new years comes, Nastasya makes a wish that she thinks have released a lot of evil in River’s Edge, and Nastasya comes to think she can’t become Tahti, because tragedies seems to follow her.

This book is full of memories too, and we see Nastasya reassimiliate her friendship with Innocencio. She never thought that Incy had bad intentions with Nastasya but the truth is not really like this. And Nastasya dreams seems to show her a side of Incy that she never imagined.

With a lot of things going wrong with her life, Nastasya thinks she is not worth saving and she often thinks of giving up. I feel for Nastasya with all her self doubting and her feelings for Reyn and Incy that she always thought was her real friend.

We also see some of Rive’s past when she tries to convince Nastasya that every immortal has some big baggage that they have to overcome.

I like the new view we have of Nastasya “happy” past with her group of friends. I just wanted that Nastasy could actually stop running from Reyn and face her feelings.
